As the calendar flips from February to March we begin setting our sights on the end of winter, the hope of Spring and Women's History Month. We book dragons are also happy because March is National Reading Month.
One day it will be my job to curate collections for more than myself to enjoy, but in the meantime, I have come up with some titles, backlisted and new, that I would like to add to my personal collection.
These are the Backlist Beauties I can't wait to open.
Ida B. the Queen- Michelle Duster is the great grand daughter of Wells and has placed on the cover these words from the Pulitzer Prize Committee "To Ida B. Wells, for her outstanding and courageous reporting on the horrific and vicious violence against African Americans during the era of lynching."
A Lab of One's Own: One Woman's Personal Journey Through Sexism in Science- Rita Colwell PhD and Sharon Bertsch McGrayne Kirkus Reviews, starred review calls this "A beautifully written manifesto from the first female director of the National Science Foundation about the entrenched sexism in science, the elaborate detours women have taken to bypass the problem, and how to fix the problem."
Rock My Soul: Black People and Self-Esteem-The Late bell hooks could have written a book of lists, and I would find a way to have it on my bookshelf.
Nothing is Missing: A Memoir of Living Boldly- Author Nicole Walters gives us a memoir that grabbed me at the title. I honestly can't wait to see where she will take me.
The First Ladies- Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray are definitely one of my favorite writing duos. For this collaboration they tell the fictionalized story of friendship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune.
The Personal Librarian-Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray- Again, this duo collaborates, this time, to tell the story of J.P. Morgan's personal librarian Belle Da Costa Greene.
These six books should definitely keep me busy for the thirty-one days ahead.
